5 Days 4 Nights Fabulous Torajaland Free & Easy  
Day 1 Arrival Makassar (D)
Meeting service with our guide after arrival at Makassar airport. Transfer to Sahid Jaya Hotel in Makassar, welcomes drink during check in at the hotel. Dinner will be served at 20.00 hrs in the hotel, the rest of the day free.
Day 2: Makassar – Torajaland (B,L,D)
Breakfast will be served at 07.30 hrs. Transfer to Torajaland will be start at 08.30 hrs. The total journey takes approximately 7 hours through magnificent road unique villages, beautiful mountains and the emerald green countryside. Lunch will be served at 12.00 hrs at a seafood restaurant on the shore in Pare Pare city. Proceed to the Toraja Highlands after lunch at 13.00 hrs. We will visit Sengkang on our way, one of the largest freshwater lake is located near this picturesque village.

We will go with private motorboats to Lake Tempe, to explore the magnificent bird wildlife at floating gardens; during this excursion we will visit a traditional family in their local floating houses where we will drink a cup of Sulawesi tea or Toraja coffee with a local snack. The next stop will be at Enrekang. Where we can enjoy an amazing panorama view over the “erotic mountains”, the mountains become higher and greener in this area until we arrive in cool Torajaland, which has huge incredible mountains! We will past the gate to Tana Toraja in Torajaland’s capitol Makale, and then it takes just 35 minutes to drive to Rantepao, the city of tourism. After a couple of minutes we will discover the first Tongkonan’s, these traditional rice barns are quite unique and they are only findable in Torajaland and nowhere else in the world.

The Tongkonan have a distinguishing boat-shaped with an oversized saddle back roof, the wood is carved and colored with natural paint. We will enjoy a delicious welcome drink made of fresh Tamarilla’s (Terong Belanda) during the check in at the wonderful Toraja Heritage Hotel. The dinner will be served in the hotel’s restaurant, where we can enjoy locals Torajanese dishes, which is excellent and tasty! Free for the rest of the day.
Day 3: Torajaland (B,L,D)
Breakfast will be served in the hotel’s restaurant at 08.00 hrs. Today we will have a great time during a full day Torajaland tour, so we can discover many of Torajaland’s highlights, which are famous around the world.

The Toraja-people have very old traditions, which make a stay in Torajaland spectacular. In Londa, a small cave village, we will find many Tau Tau’s: statues of people who passed away. You can see how the artists make a Tau Tau from a big hunk of wood. We will discover the real Toraja culture in the burial cave of Londa with an oil lamp! The highlights of this region include the ancient stone grave at Lemo, Sangalla and Kete Kesu where bodies of the dead are placed in holes carved into rocky cliffs or inside natural caves according to the traditional animistic rituals that are still performed today as they have done from generation to generation. The lunch will be served in an open-air restaurant which is surrounded by emerald green rice fields and mountains.

At 13.00 hrs we will visit traditional Toraja Houses at the magnificent Kete Kesu village, which belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage list. We have the opportunity to buy several unique Toraja souvenirs in Rantepao, there are several traditional shops where we can get the souvenirs for our family and friends in Malaysia. Tonight we will enjoy our dinner in a local restaurant downtown Rantepao, where we will enjoy delicious Sulawesian dishes.
Day 4: Torajaland – Makassar B,L,D)
Breakfast will be served at 08.00 hrs. This morning we will visit a spectacular Toraja funeral ceremony, which belong to the top attractions of Indonesia! After the ceremony we will visit several “baby trees” in Suaya, where we will explore the secrets of this mysterious Toraja trees. The delicious lunch will be served at 12.30 hrs in a local restaurant.

After the lunch we will start with outdoor teambuilding session in a field. The dinner is a traditional BBQ and it will be served by oil lamp light in a cozy village near a traditional Toraja Tongkonan. Tonight we can try Papiong Manuk, this is a traditional Toraja dish prepared in a bamboo tube, which is steamed in open fire. We will enjoy Indonesian fried rice, fresh sate sticks and delicious desserts. After our dinner we will go back to the hotel where we can order a great Torajanese massage.
Day 5: Torajaland – Makassar (B,L)
Breakfast will be served at 07.30 hrs. After breakfast the guide will bring us to Makassar. We can enjoy our lunchbox on the way. In Makassar we will visit the Old Dutch fortress “Fort Rotterdam”, this colonial building is located on Losari Beach and our guide will tell us much about the history of this fortress. Then we will visit the traditional Paoterethe Buginese harbor, many sailing boats are waiting here to go to East Indonesia. We will visit the huge Monument Mandala, this is a smaller copy of the huge Monas tower in the capitol Jakarta. The guide will tell us stories about the old United East India Company (VOC). The guide will transfer us to the Makassar airport where it’s time to say goodbye and to catch our flight back to Malaysia.
